Females


If Chlamydia is left untreated, it can cause serious problems.

Females may experience difficulty in getting pregnant (infertility), ectopic pregnancy, and miscarriage or can develop a condition known as Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID). It can also cause infection in newborn babies.

Males


Males can experience painful swollen testicles and it may possibly affect fertility.

Males and Females


Inflammation or swelling of the joints can occur (reactive arthritis). This is sometimes accompanied by inflammation of the urethra (the tube from the bladder to the outside of the body) and the eye, when it is known as Reiter's syndrome. This is rare and occurs more in men than in women
